Sprout

The Wanderland engineering blog.

Welcome to Wanderland.

This is where we write about what we're building and how we're building it. Platform engineering, tooling, architecture decisions, and the thinking behind them.

I believe that the best way to build systems is to let them show you what they want to be - a bunch of little things that mostly don't suck, all doing their best to become a big thing that's wonderful. And what emerges will be wonderful... if you let it.

The best teachers I find are often the best story tellers. I hope that through the stories we tell here, some of what I've learned about how to grow platforms can help someone else on the same path.

And if not, at least there's Keepy Uppy 🎈

About

I'm Graeme. I build infrastructure. I've been doing it my entire career. Supply chains and software mainly. Mostly the latter these days. I build platforms that make building better and I tell stories while I do. It's how I find meaning in what I'm building. If you can't teach a thing, you don't know a thing and it goes doubly so when you're trying to tell a story about it.

I recently left a decade-long platform engineering role at ProQuest/Clarivate, where I built and ran the deployment infrastructure for most of the company's software portfolio. I'm using the transition to finish some ideas that didn't fit into the roadmap for my last platform.

Enjoy.
